About STAML Molecular Medicine
STAML, Molecular Medicine was founded by the directors of St. Augustine Medical Laboratory Ltd., Dr. Balmiki Ramsaran and Dr. Shari Ramsaran. St. Augustine Medical Laboratory Ltd. (STAML) was established 45 years ago and became the Caribbean’s first internationally accredited medical laboratory. STAML focuses on maintaining the highest possible standard in healthcare and has always insisted on practicing first-world medicine in Trinidad and Tobago and the wider Caribbean.
STAML established a molecular diagnostics department in 2017 that focused on using molecular techniques for the diagnosis of several infectious diseases mainly sexually transmitted infections and eventually, the ever recognized SARS-CoV-2 virus. STAML is the only lab in the Caribbean to hold international ISO15189 accreditation of its entire testing menu including SARS-CoV-2 in the molecular diagnostics department. This proves the standard and quality STAML prides itself on and gives patients confidence in our results. Accreditation to ISO 15189 is a tool to demonstrate the competence and quality of medical laboratories and ensure the delivery of timely, accurate and reliable results. STAML consistently shows its commitment to quality and competence.
The directors of STAML recognized the need to expand molecular diagnostics far beyond the scope of infectious diseases. STAML, Molecular Medicine was born- a trusted, first-class establishment dedicated solely to Molecular Diagnostics. Our vision is to improve patient care particularly in the field of genetic disease diagnosis, cancer risk diagnosis and to bring revolutionary targeted chemotherapy to the Caribbean . This would be the first of its kind and proposes to change the way medicine is practiced in Trinidad and the wider Caribbean.
Our team is composed of highly qualified and trained personnel and headed by Dr. Shari Ramsaran with trusted affiliates.
